Saga Shipping, also known as Saga Cruises, division of the Saga Group, is a cruise line headquartered in Folkestone, England. Saga Cruises exclusively markets to and operates for people aged 50 and over

Spirit of Discovery is a 58,250 GT cruise ship operating for Saga Cruises. Built by Meyer Werft, the ship was delivered on 24 June 2019 and began operations on 10 July 2019. Upon delivery, she became Saga’s first ever new-build ship. She is Saga’s largest ship to ever operate in its history, a title she will share with her sister ship, Spirit of Adventure, after she is delivered in October 2020.

There are not many ships of 999-passenger capacity. It was the right size , as the Saga experience is typified by small ship style, high standards of customer service and a friendly ship where there is a strong relationship between customers and crew. The ship is 236 m long, 100 m less than mega ships. We have a high crew to passenger ratio. Saga Cruises is a premium brand

Spirit of Discovery also houses several specialty restaurants, a theater, and fitness and wellness facilities, features not included on the fleet’s previous vessels. Additionally, Saga designed Spirit of Discovery for an all-inclusive cruising experience, in which the cost of the cruise covers expenses incurred from beverages, gratuities, specialty dining, room service, internet access, and local chauffeur services.Spirit of Discovery also offers 100 passenger cabins designed for solo travelers and employs 523 crew members.

The maiden voyage of Saga Cruises’ new ship will take place at the start of November 2020, the operator has confirmed.

Spirit of Adventure will set sail from the England’s southern coast for a 17-day itinerary from November 5, heading to the Mediterranean before returning home to the UK. saga operates cruises from southampton and cruises from dover in the UK

Ports of call include Monaco, Naples, Barcelona and Gibraltar, suggesting that the cruise line expects entry requirements in each country – including Britain for when travellers return – to be relaxed. It will sail with no more than 800 passengers – lower than the advertised maximum capacity of 999.

Only last week the cruise line announced that the “latest indication” was that the vessel would be delivered to them by the end of October, two months after it was due to arrive.

This is likely to be welcomed by cruise enthusiasts who have been buffeted by a string of disappointments, including delays to when lines will be sailing again. Earlier this month Spain announced that its ban on cruise ships would last indefinitely.

The new ship comes a year after the launch of their first new-build, Spirit of Discovery.
